Quirky Weddings Alternative Fair

Last Sunday, I was one of the suppliers exhibiting on the 2nd Alternative Wedding Fair organized by Quirky Weddings. It was such an amazing opportunity to meet so many beautiful brides (and grooms) and to have a chat about their ideas. I'm so excited to hear that many are choosing outside of the box thinking rather than opting out for 'you gotta do it' mindset.

One of the things I do for my brides is an inspiration board- I had few of them on my table as well for brides to have a look at, and I was surprised that so many haven't actually heard of it yet.

Inspiration boards are not a necessity but they're so easy to make and I find that it really helps me stay in the right direction on the event. Because after you have been so close to the event for a few months, it's easy to lose direction or sight of where you're going with it all and what is or isn't important and keep true to the feeling of the wedding. So basically, inspiration boards are just collages of images or pictures that inspire you. It should have a similar thread going through them. The images don't even have to be EXACTLY what you want on your wedding, though they can be.

When brides don't really know what they want their wedding to look like, I usually recommend just saving pictures they like in one folder. And then after few weeks when the folder is nice and full, they can look through the pictures and see a theme or inspiration coming out of them! And that's practically your inspiration board!

Here are four that I did for the wedding fair:

Sweet Sweet Love

Whimsical Elegance

Good Green Fun

 Rustic Lavender
What's your favourite?

These were props for a competition to win 'Meet You Halfway' wedding planning package. The winner will be announced very very soon , so watch this space!

Orders of Service

For our wedding, I have been doing all design work- invitations, RSVPs, thank you cards etc. I have to say that orders of service were my absolute favourites because I really went all out and could do anything I wanted with it. So I designed a book. That's right, a proper 12 pages long book! Here are some sneak peaks, more will come after the wedding!

What a Wedding Designer Can Do

I love colourful weddings full of flowers and laughter! I often browse a lot of wedding blogs ( I will write a post about this later) to get an inspiration/ or just stay in the loop of things. And when I see a perfectly beautiful wedding that is flawlessly executed, I am sure they had a wedding planner and designer. This is of course not to say that the bride didn't have the inspiration or the ideas- but it is virtually impossible to be the bride and ensure the smooth running of the event. (I have a first hand experience in this!) This fiesta style wedding was planned by  Simply Modern Weddings and styled by dandelion&grey. I love the execution of every single detail and the fun that this wedding screams without being tacky or garish.

First of Posts!

Ok, here goes my newest venture!
Hi, I'm Filipa, the body, mind and heart behind Alphia Events. This will be Alphia's blog, all things weddingy and all things Alphia-y (if that's how you'd say it!).  For anything else, visit my other blog- Feathers of Inspiration.

So, Northern Ireland- here come the wedding planners! I have recently noticed/discovered at least 4 very fresh and new wedding and events planning companies, and it seems like we all started around the same time! Clearly great minds think alike, right?:) Let's be honest though, weddings did need a bit of fresh air in Northern Ireland, right?

I'm really excited about where this all will take us and to get to know all the fab vendors and other planners and share on the creative thought process! And it is brides that benefit from it all, so yay! :)
